eCrampus

A desktop application that brings together eCampus course materials, daily summaries, and the learning trainer in one place. Built during my own vocational retraining to make lesson content more accessible and easier to study.

Starting point

During my vocational retraining at WBS TRAINING AG I used the ILIAS-based eCampus platform every day. Its scattered structure — course materials in one place, daily logs in another, the learning trainer somewhere else — made it hard to keep track. eCrampus started as a personal tool to consolidate these into a single, consistent interface with direct access to what matters.

Today

The Today view shows all upcoming appointments, lessons, and deadlines for the current day at a glance. Instead of navigating through multiple ILIAS layers, I can see immediately what is relevant today.

Course material

Course materials are displayed hierarchically by module and folder. Files can be opened directly in the application or saved locally without switching to a browser.

File preview

Selected documents — PDFs, Word files, presentations — are displayed inline. The preview uses native renderers for sharp rendering even with complex layouts.

Learning trainer

The integrated learning trainer summarizes daily content and prepares it for review.

Workspace

After login the full workspace appears with sidebar navigation, status indicator, and direct access to every feature. The branding follows the existing nullframe.sh design language.

Development

eCrampus is built as an Electron application because the ILIAS interface relies on cookie-based sessions and server-rendered HTML that cannot be cleanly mapped to a pure web API. The renderer process uses React and TypeScript; cheerio parses ILIAS responses, tough-cookie manages session persistence across restarts.

The SSO bridge between eCampus and LearnSpace 3D was the most technically demanding part: both systems use different authentication mechanisms, and token handoff had to work reliably without requiring users to log in twice. Axios with cookie jar support and custom session inspection brought stability here.
